Land Plants of Populus
|
|
As you
have seen already, the terrain on Populus varies greatly. Great
differences in elevation, temperature, precipitation, and soil type have
led to the development of many different environments for plants to live
in.
We will focus our exploration on four of the land environments that occur
on Populus. Lowland Deserts: There are two large areas of Dessert on Populus. One dessert is on the East side of Gloen and the other is on the East side of Durin. Both of these deserts have similar traits: very little rainfall, extreme temperature changes, and poor soils. We will only talk about the deserts that occur below an elevation of 4000 ft. Tropical Rainforests: This environment occurs near the equator of Populus. These forest have a great amount of biodiversity. They receive very large amounts of rainfall and their temperature remains warm year round. The soils here are very rich, due to high amounts of decomposing organic matter. Temperate Forests: This is another forest environment, but these forests occur in areas that are cooler and slightly drier than the tropics. The soils in these forests are deep and rich, but their fine quality is a result of high amounts of minerals in the "parent rock" that the soil developed from. Grasslands: The grasslands are the "average" environment on Populus. Their rainfall is neither high nor low, the temperature is moderate year round, and the soils are considered fair, but not good. |
