The eels of Qui's oceans eventually developed the ability to breath out of the water, as their gills were replaced by lungs. The transition was somewhat easier due to the extreme humidity of Qui, and their long, low forms worked well in Qui's extreme winds and gravitational forces.
As they adapted to the special challenges that living on land brought, their internal support structures (formerly cartilaginous) became more rigid, allowing them to compensate for the support that the oceans once provided. In some, fins were replaced by primitive limbs, which in turn developed into the legs of the Greater Carnivorous Land Eel and the Horned and Two-legged Land Eels. Others developed long, thin forms, moving across the landscape via undulating motions of their muscular bodies, similar to the locomotion of snakes on Earth.
As in Qui's oceans, carnivorous and herbivorous forms emerged. The fearsome Greater Carnivorous Land Eels and Legless Eels carried on the predatory nature of their ancestors, while the Horned Land Eel and Two-Legged Land Eels adapted to consuming the varied plants available on land.
