GEOLOGY - written by geologist TIM

OSIRIS's geology has been shaped by three main forces. Volcanoes, plate tectonics and a massive planetoid all had a huge effect on the planet. The planet is primarily covered by water with one massive landmass located at the equator. There are also various islands sprinkled throughout Osiris.

Volcanoes were the first main force that shaped the planet. In the beginning Osiris was covered with volcanoes. A water vapor atmosphere developed as a result of the volcanic activity.

The water vapor condensed and accumulated to form the oceans.

Plate tectonics were the next force that shaped the planet. The movement of plates converged at one point creating the massive landmass at the equator. It also created four separate peninsulas in each direction and two vast mountain ranges on the continent. The mountain ranges were located in the north and to the east.

Finally, a huge volcano was formed at the center of the continent. Through the years this great volcano became extinct. At that point this volcano became dormant.  Smaller eruptions continued on the planet.

The last main force that shaped the planet was a massive planetoid named AMON. Amon is the Egyptian primordial creation deity, one of the eight gods of chaos. In many ways, this event brought the planet back to life. It "recreated" the planet. It started with the planetoid streaking through the atmosphere. The location of the impact was at the center of the continent right on the dormant volcano. The collision created a huge crater or calderon. Osiris' plates also shifted creating more underwater volcanoes and islands.  wpe15.jpg (15739 bytes)
As time passed the planet began to change even more. Over time the crater filled with water due to rainfall and runoff from the mountains. The lake was called KHNUM, the water god. A river called, HAPI after the Nile god, flowed from the great lake to the southeast peninsula. There it emptied into the sea. An estuary formed here due to a tectonic shift. The planetoid AMON also wiped out a small volcano along the southwest peninsula.Through time, a massive coral reef developed. Two islands popped up near the east coast creating a separate ocean. Finally, thin ice sheets began to develop around the north and south poles.
