LAND ANIMALS

On the planet of Millenia exist life forms that utilizes the natural resources of the planet to survive. Within the tropical islands of the planet there are several land species of animals. The animals depend on the weather which maintain the rainforest. Some of the animals feed on the various types of vegetation that exist in the rainforest. The animals that inhabit the rainforest are beautiful creatures with unique characteristics.

The Aye-Aye is found in the dense bamboo thickets, mangroves, and forests of Millenia. Aye-Aye's feed at night on insects, various plants, and the sap from trees. The Aye-Aye have long, bushy tails, a shaggy brown coat, and large ears. They have long incisors which are used for gnawing. Their fingers are usually long. With the middle finger, the thinnest and longest of all, they are said to pull out tree sap of holes in the barks of trees. The Aye-Aye also have an opposing thumb that meets with other fingers. Aye-Aye's sleep all day. They are very active at night. The female gender of this species rest with her single offspring in a ball -shaped nest built 10 to 15m high in a tree. Isn't he a beautiful little creature?

The Langur is a long tailed, slender animal that weigh from 4 to 24kg. They have heavy eyebrows and, often, beardlike hairs on their chins. Some are strinkingly colored. Langurs are arboreal animals that live in troops and feed on vegetation. They are are often called leaf eaters because of their diet. Over one-third of what they eat is seeds, buds, blossoms, and fruit. The Langurs are also noted dirt eaters; they like sand and salty dirt. Pictured to the left is a Langur sitting in a tree feeding on a seed. The Langur has a very mysterious look about itself.

The Couvier bird is distinguished by a colorful, enormous, but lightweight beak. The Couvier inhabit tropical Millenia. Couviers range in size from 18 to 63cm. The body of the Couvier is short and thick; the tail is rounded, varying in length from half the length to almost the whole length of the body. Males and females are alike in color. Couviers are generally black, with touches of white, yellow, and scarlet. Couviers live in pairs or small flocks. They feed on vegetation, but mainly on fruit. With their long beaks, they can manipulae small berries at the tip of the bill with great dexterity. The Couvier makes its home in hollow tree holes in the rainforest.

The Shakey Tail makes up the largest group of species on the planet of Millenia. As you can see, the Shakey Tail does not have legs or hands. Their bodies are covered with scales. Shakey Tails can be large or small. The largest Shakey Tail ever found on Millenia was about 9m long and weighed over 100 pounds. Shakey Tails have an interesting way of eating. They swallow their food whole. The picture shows a Shakey Tail with an entire rodent in its mouth. The Shakey Tail likes to prey on Aye-Aye. When the Shakey Tail eats an animal larger than its mouth, the lower jaw seperates from the upper jaw. This allows the mouth to open very wide.

Pictured to the left is a skeleton of a Shakey Tail.
