The Evolution of A Chranaran Plant

       Hollifer

The shallow water Hollifer moved on to land.    Roots began to form to seek out water and took hold in the ground and began growing inland.  New sprouts came up from these roots and over many years, the plants adapted to air and fresh water.  Winds carried pieces of the Hollifer even further inland where it laid down roots and continued to grow and thrive away from the ocean environment.

Valleys & Plains

The Hollifer continued its evolution into a land plant and moved further inland to the valleys of Chranara.  The plant rooted deeper and  stems began forming together to create the low growing Billious shrub.  This shrub is dense and covers vast areas of the Chranaran hillsides.  The spiky texture keeps animals from eating the greenery, however small berries provide food for birds and small animals.  Seeds inside the berries are later scattered in animal waste, allowing for additional spreading of the shrub.  Winds in the valleys are often strong, but the plant has adapted by becoming dense and hardy.  It is capable of withstanding varying temperatures and is an evergreen.

Mountains

As seeds were carried by birds and animals to higher elevations, the shrub began to evolve into two new species.  Fighting with other plants and trees for sunlight, the branches grew upward to heights of several feet.  The Barbious remained dense with small berries and became conical in shape.  A trunk developed to assist in giving the plant height.  Berries still provided animals and birds with a source of food and provided for reproduction.

The Billious grew hardier still and could withstand colder winter temperatures.  Small cones formed protecting seeds from the harsh winter conditions and from scavengers. Branches spread out with the additional weight and provided shade for the roots to help reserve water.  Roots grew deeper into the ground and trunks became solid and strong to help provide stability.
