Animals Part II
The animals of Chranara evolved over many millions of years from the sea onto the land and into the sky. Many transformations occurred and different species were born. Chranara has such a wonderfully mild climate that animals do not face significant diversity. Plant life is abundant for the herbivores and optimum conditions for reproduction keep the food chain intact. Small animals reproduce rapidly providing food for the secondary consumers. Listed below are just a few of the animals of Chranara that are believed to have evolved from the early water animals.

Speckled Lizard A very primitive land animal evolved directly from the Bobfish. It is a lizard and basks in the rocks in sunny warm climates. It eats the many grasses and plants found on the planet. The speckled lizard is a primary consumer and a food source for some birds of prey. His life span is generally about 2 years, if he manages to stay out of harms way. |

Spiked Porky The Porky is also a herbivore. This small animal (approximately 3 pounds) lives in the valleys . It burrows and hides from prey in small dens it digs in the earth. The spikes evolved as a form of camouflage in grasses. While not a particular favorite food of larger predators, when conditions demand, they are hunted. The porky enjoys a diet of plants, grasses and berries. |

Spotted Barker The Spotted Barker roams the valleys and mountains in packs. The weaker of the species sometimes fall prey to larger mountain animals, but when confronted in packs, they make formidable enemies. Speed and agility aid in their hunting skills. A keen sense of smell and keen eyesight make them excellent hunters. The barker grew strong, fast legs, excellent night vision and a warm fur coat to adapt to the mountain environment. They are secondary consumers and scientists believe they evolved from early land animals, such as the speckled lizard. |

Brown Grizzler The Grizzler prefers the higher elevations of the Chranaran mountains. A fierce, strong animal who hunts both mammals and fish, the Grizzler lives in caves. Despite his bulk, he is a swift runner and his sharp claws make lethal weapons. The Grizzler will protect his territory with immense determination, using his bulk and size as a show of strength. |

Blue Floot The Blue Floot is a water bird living off the coast of Chranara. It feasts on water plants and small fish. Though it prefers the salt water, it does venture inland to various lakes and rivers. Its ancestry is not known for sure, but it's speculated that it may have evolved over several generations from the sea. His long neck and beak aid in capturing and devouring small fish. |

Chranaran Scientists presume the following evolution of the animals listed here. Since these changes took place over many hundreds of thousands of years with many steps and species in between, the following is a representation based on research and assumption.
