Warren Swil

I am an editor at the San Gabriel Valley Newspaper Group which publishes the  Pasadena Star-News, San Gabriel Valley Tribune and Whittier Daily News. I have been employed in media since the mid-1970s, mostly in newspapers.
A masterÔs degree in education is my goal at CSULA,
and my emphasis is new media design and production.
I was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, where I graduated with a degree in sociology. I arrived in southern California in 1975 and have lived here almost 26 years.

For much of that time my favorite activity was motorcycling. I have won several trophies for competitive riding, and enjoyed taking my dog, Franky, on the bike with me. She would ride in a milk crate on the back seat. At right is a picture of Franky on my motorcycle.

More recently I have become an avid sailor. In 1999 I obtained my certification from the American Sailing Association, and in the summer of 2000 skippered a charter to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

At left is a picture of me at the helm of "Seamist" on Santa Monica Bay.
