 Gene Stars Work Sheet

This work sheet allows students to practice the assortment of genes from generation to generation. Stick-on foil stars may be used to make the activity more interesting.

Six different biomes are featured: Desert, Tundra, Grassland, Coniferous Forest, Deciduous Forest, and Tropical Rain Forest.

For the first few times, let the students work in pairs so that they can talk about what they are thinking.

Begin with parents with, for example, TT and tt genes.
Then try TT and Tt
      or tt and Tt

Later, when the students are studying adaptation and speciation, review these concepts briefly.

The ideas will suddenly "pop into focus" as the students apply evolution to their own animals and plants.
